March is off to a slow start with
wide spread spring rain slowing our flying frenzy down a bit.
But flying between showers has proved to be good as every.
New student James shown above making his last flight to the beach Saturday.

January and Febuary gave up some good flying

at Cliffside, Bingen, Chehalem Ridge and Oceanside.

But sadly the road to Sollie Smith washed out.

Iam sure it will be in repair and passable

for flying soon.

Off to a great start this Fall.

The first couple weeks gave us some sun, fun and thermals.
It was great to have Steve Roti and the guys from Bend join us out at Cliffside.

Currently the jet stream in directly
over Oregon given us the drizzels. This weather pattern will be farely short lived to be sure so catch your breath and get ready to fly your
butts off.

We still have room for our winter classes keep in mind it is first come first serve, so sooner is better than later.

All in all, after it all comes down.
I have seen paragliding change and save lives
for the better. I have heard it all to often
from students, pilots and their families, that
they do not know what or how things would have ended
up like if they or their loved one didn't have this
positive outlet. Listening to students tell me
how the whole experience of taking to the sky's has had
some kind of spiritual healing and that stepping up and
off to chase the clouds like a bird has freed them to
become better people themselves and to others.
This is is just one of the many reasons i still teach
after all these years.

August Paragliding News

August left us with some challenges for sure.
The Coastal Mountain Range socked in with fog.
The Gorge blown out day after day but, we did hit
some great flying at the Toutle up by Mt. St. Hellens.
And completed Brett Faike and Jon De La Motte through
thier USHPA (P2) certification.

2TL July Paragliding news

Summer is here and in full gear.
Just flew the last 6 out of 7 days and yesterday
at the 2TL (aka) Toutle (aka) Twin Bowls.
I ended up launching a little late to hit
the big time but still fun as hell and the
best part was how excited friends and former
students Doug Peck and Tom Nosack were about
flying there. "Good Times" Happy B-day Tom.

Speed Flying

GIN has released the 18sqm version of the Speed Flying wing
The Bobcat and The Yak. I had a ton of fun flying the Yak
at 3 differant sites and soaring with the boyz
at the dunes while they where on there full size
gliders. I also found the 18 had more than enough
performance to make long glides to the aproved LZ
at the local Mountain sites even in no wind. where
the 12-15sqm do not.
Here is a video of Sam Mulders first flight on the Yak.

Well Sam is now the happy owner and is adding Speed Flying to his
Cross Country and ACRO flying I love to see that kind of diversity.

May 29Th James Lee returns to the sky !
Its great to have you back in the air with us.

Saturday the we didn't get the kiting winds we were looking for but, I was super excited to see so many friends show up and that everyone got to fly. Between Lance, Todd and myself we knocked out 20 Tandems before going to Sollie for an evening flight where I got a few laughs flying clipped in backwards. Then it was off to dinner and the biggest Margaretta I have ever seen. Thank you all for such a great B-day ; )

Here is looking forward to great kiting and flying this Saturday.

Good friend and former student Lance Woolen

made the front page of the local Tillamook news paper.

It is a great and inspiring article focusing on how you are

never to old or young to fly. The 80 year old couple

explained that they felt very secure with Lances confidence

and expertise. Lance often flys with his 5 year old daughter

Sammy and occasionally with us here at MAX ROC as one

of our Tandem Pilots. Way to go Lance great 'PR'

You make us proud.

The Board of Directors
is pleased to inform you
of the first annual
National Hang Gliding
& Paragliding Day
this Memorial Day
weekend on Saturday,
May 29, 2010.
There will be a flurry of activity to showcase hang gliding &
paragliding including fly-ins,sanctioned and non-sanctioned
flying events, as well as a general celebration of the start of
the flying season.
It also happens that May 29th is my birthday,
emagine that.

April Paragliding NEWs

This April was really windy.
We actually got blown out for a record breaking 3 Saturdays
in a row. But thankfully we were able to get all the
ground school sessions and reserve parachute repacks out of
the way. The 4Th week we scored big with the students at
Oceanside, flying was epic most of the day allowing us a
follow the leader warm up flight to happy camp and back.
Then it was onto basic maneuvers asymmetric deflation,
full frontals, B-line stalls, wing overs and spirals. the
students had all previously done all the drill and task
leading up to this so it was "go time"
and what a time it was with several hours of airtime
for the day,everyone was ecstatic!
We are all excited about moving on with thermalling and
spot landings for are next class.

Please note; that we are moving the start of the
summer classes to June 5Th.
I do apologize for the delay but it is the best so we are
not overlapping students.

If you are interested in summer lessons please call ASAP
so we can get your spot saved.

March PARAGLIDING News

Spring is here and its all up with students.
Ryan and Andrew scored big with over 2 hours of airtime
and multiple top landings, this Saturday after only 3 days
of training with Kelly. Jim also showed for a couple flights
before taking his daughters to a concert.

Todd finally got Scarlet & Cindy from Crazy Peppers in Hood River out for a Tandem flight, and hell ya they loved it.

We are now booking our summer sessions.

THE FROSTBITE FESTIVAL

The flying in February was not to bad,
with the warmer than usual temperatures.
The Frostbite Fest on Saturday Feb. 20Th rocked as always

with Todd Taylor and myself knocking out half a dozen

tandems before glass off and Lance and his 6 year old

daughter "Sammy"flying throughout the day.

It was wonderful to see all the smiles and hear all the

hoots and haulers of laughter ring out throughout the day.

Gabe and his 'WE OWN THE SKIES CREW' did some

impressive motor flying as well. With over 40 pilots

signed in they all did an awesome job of keeping the

parking and roadways clear and running smooth.

A special thanks to Lisa for running the shuttle for us

all day & the great pics. Everyone loves the drivers ; )

Wonderful Winter Paragliding in Oregon.

Winter is such a great time to fly and or learn to fly no crowds very smooth air despite whatever the forecast says. This photo of me was taken by good friend Todd Taylor while we where soaring eagle caves over the Dalles last week.

Anyway lots of great stuff going on here. Of course paragliding, and making good use of the short winter daylight hours by, Updating and making some nice changes to the website. Just opened the MAX ROC web store. We now have sweatshirts ready to go.... and caps coming soon. Got some great new video up. No trips planned this year but stay tuned ya never know.

And the best news of all is I have openings for students right now. know that waiting for spring and summer does have some disadvantages. #1.) I am busier #2.) its more expensive. If you want to learn to paraglide booking your spot is better done sooner than later.

Come join us for the upcoming frostbite festival fly-in coming February 20Th 2010.
